SPEARFISH, SD

Downtown Walkable City Campground

At the Northern base of the Black Hills of Western South Dakota sits the city of Spearfish, SD. The city offers and manages a rad campground with large grass shared parking areas for boondock capable rigs within walking distance to downtown. A worthwhile stop on your way through Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills of SD or while you’re getting your SD nomad residency.

⚫ STOP-OVER LOCATION : This a recommended safe stop-over for nomads on wheels meant to be a crash pad for a few nights. Not an official VLC location.

ABOUT THE STOP:

Can get busy on the weekends during the summer but an absolutely worth it stop. A great offering by the city of Spearfish, SD. One side is a basic RV park (YUCK!) but the other side is a collection of large grass areas which act as shared parking areas for boondockable rigs and tent campers.

Spot is beautiful, green, with people hanging and kids playing. Quite at night with multiple streams running through the park and miles of city nature trails. Has all the amenities you could need including potable water fill-ups, hot showers, flush toilets and is walkable to museums, restaurants and bars of the very cute downtown Spearfish.

Note: This is a city campground not booked through VLC. Their booking system is confusing. Just make sure you book a tent camping spot for $25/night and you’ll have a great time!
